An advocate for queer mental health
I’m Jonathan Galla, MD. I also go by Jon. I’m a final-year psychiatry resident at Georgetown with interests in LGBTQ mental health, psychotherapy-informed psychiatry, medication management, OCD, ADHD, anxiety, burnout, body image, relationships, and identity.
My clinical interests include LGBTQ mental health, anxiety, depression, burnout, identity development, relationships, body image, and the intersection of mental health with work, family, and personal meaning. I have a particular interest in working with gay, bisexual, and queer men, as well as professionals navigating high-pressure careers, major life transitions, and questions of identity or belonging.
My approach is collaborative, curious, and grounded. I believe good psychiatric care should be more than a checklist of symptoms or medications. While medication can be an important and effective tool, I also pay close attention to the patterns, relationships, conflicts, strengths, and life experiences that shape how someone feels and functions.
I am especially drawn to care that integrates psychotherapy and medication management when appropriate. My style is warm, direct, and reflective. I aim to help patients better understand themselves, reduce suffering, and make changes that feel both practical and personally meaningful.
I completed my undergraduate education at Harvard University, studied medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine, and am completing psychiatry residency at Georgetown University, where I serve as a chief resident. My training has included several modalities of psychotherapy, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and exposure and response prevention.
